The requirements for the use and maintenance of gantry cranes during the running in period can be summarized as: strengthening training, reducing load, paying attention to inspection, and strengthening lubrication. As long as you attach importance to and implement maintenance and upkeep during the running in period of the crane according to requirements, it will reduce the occurrence of early failures, extend the service life, improve work efficiency, and bring more profits to the machine for you.

After the gantry crane leaves the factory, there is usually a running in period of about 60 hours. This is specified by the manufacturing factory based on the technical characteristics of the initial use of the crane. The running in period is an important link to ensure the normal operation of the crane, reduce the failure rate, and extend its service life.

The characteristics of the running in period of gantry cranes:

1.The wear rate is fast. Due to factors such as processing, assembly, and adjustment of new machine components, the friction surface is rough, the contact area of the mating surface is small, and the surface pressure condition is uneven. During the operation of the machine, the concave and convex parts on the surface of the parts are intertwined and rubbed against each other. The metal debris that falls off serves as abrasive and continues to participate in friction, further accelerating the wear of the mating surface of the parts. Therefore, during the running in period, it is easy to cause wear on the components, and the wear rate is fast. At this point, if overloaded operation occurs, it may cause damage to the components and result in early failures.

2. Poor lubrication. Due to the small fitting clearance of newly assembled components and the difficulty in ensuring the uniformity of fitting clearance due to assembly and other reasons, lubricating oil is not easy to form a uniform oil film on the friction surface to prevent wear. This reduces lubrication efficiency and causes early abnormal wear of the components. In severe cases, it can cause scratches or bite on the friction surface of precision fitting, leading to the occurrence of faults.

3. Loosening occurs. The newly processed and assembled components have deviations in geometric shape and fitting dimensions. In the early stages of use, due to alternating loads such as impact and vibration, as well as factors such as heat and deformation, coupled with rapid wear and tear, it is easy for the originally fastened components to become loose.

4. Leakage occurs. Due to the loosening, vibration, and heating of the machine components, leakage may occur on the sealing surfaces and pipe joints of the machine. Some defects such as casting and processing are difficult to detect during assembly and debugging, but due to vibration and impact during the operation process, these defects are exposed, manifested as oil leakage. Therefore, leakage is prone to occur during the running in period.

5. There are many operational errors. Due to insufficient understanding of the structure and performance of gantry cranes by operators, it is easy to cause malfunctions and even mechanical accidents due to operational errors.
